For centuries, the vineyards around Schloss Gobelsburg have been producing some of the finest wines in Austria.  The winery is one of the oldest in the country, dating back to 1171. The area has been used for winemaking by monks ever since the nearby Stift Zwettl, a Cistercian monastery, was founded in 1137. Maintaining a close connection to the remarkable winemaking techniques of the monks, the winery nowadays enjoys international fame. The special history, distinguished wines and ecological wine-growing processes has earned the winery many prizes and recognitions from all over the world.
