The Museum Hermann Hesse Montagnola near Lugano is one of the most popular museums in the Swiss canton Tessin. The museum not only captivates visitors through a permanent exhibition worth seeing, but also through its outstanding atmosphere and themed special exhibitions. The Nobel Prize winning writer Hermann Hesse had chosen Montagnola as his adopted home and lived there for 43 years. The opulent nature around the village of Montagnola fascinates its visitors until today. It inspired Hermann Hesse not only to write some of his most famous novels like Siddhartha, but also to create watercolour paintings. From 1 April 2018 to 13 January 2019 the Museum Hermann Hesse Montagnola shows the special exhibition From Beneath the Wheel to Zen – Hermann Hesse and Japan.
