Designing with light. Awakening emotions. Creating orientation.

For more than 20 years, Flavia Thumshirn has worked with light. For her, it is much more than merely a technical tool. It is a creative medium that shapes atmosphere and brings architecture to life.

As a designer, Flavia Thumshirn takes a holistic approach that spans from lighting to product design. With a keen sense for materiality, proportion and effect, she pays close attention to every detail, whether it is a lighting object, a private space or a complex architectural structure.

“Light is fundamental to our well-being. It affects our experience of spaces and can calm, inspire or move us,” emphasises the designer. This philosophy defines each of her projects, from the first concept to its precise and skilled realisation.

Flavia’s portfolio ranges from lighting design for Die Neue Sammlung, the Danner Rotunde at Pinakothek der Moderne and the exterior lighting design of Palais an der Oper in Munich to a private retreat in the Caribbean. Most recently, she completed the lighting concept for SLYRS Erlebniswelt, a whisky distillery in Bavaria.

Flavia Thumshirn’s designs effortlessly combine aesthetic elegance and technical precision. Her lamp nuunu for Ingo Maurer was honoured with the LIT Award 2024 and has been nominated for the German Design Award 2025.
