Beautiful autumn colours, a cool breeze and a fantastic line-up of events await us this month. Who is ready for film festivals, light shows, theatre and great music across the board? Bring it on, October.
ZURICH FILM FESTIVAL, ZURICH (22 SEPTEMBER – 2 OCTOBER)
This festival is Switzerland’s place to be when it comes to the world of film. Celebrities, directors and actors join from all over the world to celebrate international film in Zurich. The week is packed with great premieres and a range of fabulous talks. This year’s guest country is Spain.
ORF LONG NIGHT OF MUSEUMS 2022, ACROSS AUSTRIA (1 OCTOBER)
Austria’s Long Night of the Museums is organised by ORF and promises to be great fun. The Austria-wide event kicks off at 6pm and lasts until 1am. With so many museums and galleries opening their doors to the night owls among us, it is set to be a truly special event. Workshops and concerts accompany the Long Night of the Museums and turn Austria into a glamorous background for a magical night of culture.
FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS, BERLIN (7 – 16 OCTOBER)
Once again, the Festival of Lights will illuminate Germany’s capital in October. With a wealth of colourful lights, these beautiful illuminations put some lesser known (yet significant) buildings across the city into the limelight. The stunning installations and projections can be found all over Berlin.
HEINRICH SCHÜTZ MUSIKFEST, DRESDEN (7 – 16 OCTOBER)
This year the Heinrich Schütz music festival follows the theme ‘Because I am alive’. Guests are invited to enjoy a marvellous range of classical concerts and to reflect on what it means to be alive. This year’s edition marks 350 years since the famous composer’s passing and the festival team wants to make this year extra special.
FRISCÈNES THEATRE FESTIVAL, FRIBOURG (8 – 15 OCTOBER)
The international theatre festival FriScènes is widely seen as an open creative space that has artistic dialogue at its heart. It merges professional and amateur theatre and presents a vibrant platform for future collaborations and networking among the participants. A joy to watch.
JAZZ & THE CITY, SALZBURG (13 – 16 OCTOBER)
Jazz & The City fills Salzburg with rich sounds across 50 locations. Music fans can look forward to around 100 concerts and the programme includes anything from world music to jazz and electronic. Both established international artists and local newcomers will be performing.
VIENNALE FILM FESTIVAL, VIENNA (20 OCTOBER – 1 NOVEMBER)
The prestigious international film festival in Vienna is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting events in Austria’s calendar. Celebrities, filmmakers and guests from all over the world flock to Vienna to see premieres, attend workshops and talks. Certainly, a glamorous affair.
RENDEZ-VOUS BUNDESPLATZ, BERN (22 OCTOBER – 26 NOVEMBER)
Rendez-vous Bundesplatz is an absolutely magical event. Every evening at 7pm and 8.30pm (right outside the parliament building), a beautiful show is projected onto the old building. This year’s show is called FIRST STEP and examines the moon landing from all angles.
