What will travel look like in 2027? Anyone planning their next holiday may want to look beyond the classic bucket-list destinations. Cooler regions, off-season travel and lesser-known destinations are all gaining ground. HolidayPirates taps into these trends with an approach that focuses not on the sheer number of offers, but on selecting those genuinely worth considering.

These predictions are grounded in years of travel expertise. As a travel deals platform, HolidayPirates has long scoured the market for deals that offer travellers something genuinely worthwhile. But it does not see itself as a conventional booking platform. “We combine price intelligence with genuine travel inspiration,” explains Carlo Speth, head of country management DACH. Rather than presenting as many offers as possible, its editorial team carefully curates what makes the cut. “At the heart of what we do are the personal recommendations of our editorial team, covering everything from budget breaks to five-star and luxury travel.”

Speth sees several trends shaping travel in 2027. One is the rise of the coolcation, with travellers increasingly heading to Scandinavia, the Baltic states, Scotland or the Alps to escape soaring summer temperatures. At the same time, off-season travel continues to grow in popularity, particularly around the Mediterranean. Food and wine breaks in northern Italy, the Basque Country or Austria sit alongside a growing appetite for slow travel: fewer stops, more time to immerse yourself in a place, and journeys by train or car where getting there becomes part of the experience.

Attitudes towards price are changing too. Rather than simply searching for the cheapest option, travellers are increasingly looking for the best value for the experience. Destinations such as North Macedonia and Uzbekistan could benefit, while even traditionally more expensive countries such as Japan and South Korea are becoming more attractive thanks to favourable exchange rates for European visitors.

When it comes to booking, HolidayPirates is seeing two contrasting trends: spontaneous, last-minute decisions on the one hand and booking well in advance on the other. Those tied to school holiday dates would be wise to plan early due to limited flight capacity. Flexibility, however, remains one of the best travel hacks. “Shifting your dates by just a few days can make a significant difference, particularly around weekends and public holidays,” says Speth.

Social media and AI are also playing an increasingly important role in travel inspiration, but for Speth, first-hand experience remains key. Many of the destinations featured have been visited by members of the editorial team themselves. And that is precisely where HolidayPirates sees its strength: combining technology, reach and exclusive partner offers with genuine human travel expertise.
