Experience Mozart’s music and history where it all began

Nowhere is the world of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart as vibrant and tangible as in the museums headed by International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, the birthplace of the world-renowned composer who continues to captivate people worldwide.

Mozart’s Birthplace in Salzburg’s Getreidegasse stands out not only with its striking yellow façade but also as an international memorial and an innovative museum. Here, visitors can admire many unique original artefacts, family treasures, and the famous composer’s instruments. Established as a museum in 1880, the former Mozart apartment on the third floor today forms the core of the exhibition space.

With changing exhibitions, Mozart Residence on Makartplatz, faithfully reconstructed in 1996 after wartime destruction, offers insights into the family’s life and Mozart’s cosmos. It also highlights the musical creations of the genius, who lived here from 1773 until he left Salzburg.

Organised by International Mozarteum Foundation, since 1956 the Mozart Week draws world-renowned Mozart performers to Salzburg every year. The festival is currently led by star tenor Rolando Villazón, who will stage a new production of The Magic Flute in January 2026 to celebrate Mozart’s 270th birthday.

Erleben Sie die Musik und Geschichte Mozarts an ihrem Entstehungsort

Nirgends ist die Welt von Wolfgang Amadé Mozart so lebendig und greifbar wie in den Museen der Internationalen Stiftung Mozarteum in Salzburg, dem Geburtsort des weltberühmten Komponisten, der bis heute Menschen in aller Welt fasziniert.

Mozarts Geburtshaus in der Salzburger Getreidegasse sticht nicht nur durch eine markante gelbe Fassade hervor: Es ist zudem eine internationale Gedenkstätte und ein innovatives Museum, in dem Besucher viele einzigartige Originale, Familienschätze und Instrumente des berühmten Komponisten bestaunen können. Bereits 1880 als Museum ins Leben gerufen ist die ehemalige Mozartwohnung im dritten Stock der Kern des Museums.

Das Mozart-Wohnhaus am Makartplatz, das 1996 nach Zerstörungen im Weltkrieg originalgetreu wieder aufgebaut wurde, bietet mit wechselnden Sonderausstellungen Einblicke in das Leben der Familie und den Kosmos Mozarts. Es beleuchtet zudem das musikalische Schaffen Mozarts, der hier ab 1773 bis zu seinem Weggang aus Salzburg lebte.

Die von der Internationalen Stiftung Mozarteum veranstaltete Mozartwoche lockt seit 1956 alljährlich weltbekannte Mozart-Interpret:innen nach Salzburg. Derzeit steht das Festival unter der Leitung des Startenors Rolando Villazón, der zum 270. Mozart-Geburtstag im Januar 2026 eine Neuproduktion der Zauberflöte auf die Bühne bringt.
