April bursts with lots of colour and a welcome dose of fresh air. From spring festivals and blossom-filled gardens to sporting highlights and many traditional fun fairs, the month is all about shaking off winter for good and stepping back into the buzz of the season.

Easter Market at Schönbrunn Castle, Vienna (25 March – 19 April)
The Easter and Spring Market in the courtyard of Schönbrunn Palace brings seasonal charm to Vienna with around 70 stalls showcasing decorated eggs, traditional crafts and regional delicacies. A straw maze, carousel and children’s workshops add to the festive atmosphere, making it a lovely spring outing for local families and visitors alike.

Spring Fun Fair at Kurt-Schumacher-Damm, Berlin (28 March – 3 May)
Berlin’s Spring Fun Fair brings classic fairground thrills back to the capital with rollercoasters, bumper cars and towering Ferris wheels lighting up the season. Alongside adrenaline-fuelled rides, visitors can indulge in roasted almonds, bratwurst and candyfloss for the full nostalgic experience. A special highlight for families: Wednesdays are discount days, with rides offered at half price.

Cherry Blossom Festival, Berlin (11 – 12 April)
Berlin’s Cherry Blossom Festival at Gärten der Welt lights up spring with a breathtaking sea of pink and white sakura amongst the park’s themed gardens. This year the event also celebrates the 20th anniversary of the beloved Korean Garden as visitors enjoy cultural performances, Asian-inspired food and family-friendly activities under the blossoms. The dreamy weekend feels a world away from the city streets.
Marathon, Zurich (12 April)
The Zurich Marathon is one of Switzerland’s most scenic sporting highlights, guiding runners along the shores of Lake Zurich and through the historic city centre. With marathon, half-marathon and relay options, it welcomes ambitious athletes and enthusiastic amateurs alike to kick off the season in style. Fast, flat and internationally respected, the spring race pairs sporting ambition with postcard-worthy views.
FIBO, Cologne (16 – 19 April)

Sechseläuten Spring Festival, Zurich (17 – 20 April)
The Sechseläuten Spring Festival in Zurich is a centuries-old celebration of the end of winter and the arrival of spring, deeply rooted in the city’s medieval guild traditions. The highlight is the dramatic burning of the Böögg, a giant snowman effigy whose head is filled with fireworks – legend says that the quicker it explodes, the better the coming summer will be. Festivities also include colourful processions of guilds in historic costume, lively parades and a buzzing atmosphere that makes it one of Switzerland’s most unique cultural events.
60th Spring fun fair, Munich (17 April – 10 May)
Munich’s Frühlingsfest on the Theresienwiese is the city’s iconic spring festival and a warm-up to Oktoberfest with a distinctly Bavarian twist. Expect two huge beer tents, delicious local food, live music, lively parades and more than 100 fairground rides and attractions to keep the mood upbeat. Whether here for the classic pretzels and Maß, the colourful flea market or just the festive atmosphere, it’s a big-hearted celebration of spring in true Munich style.

Record Store Day, Berlin (18 April)
Record Store Day has long since become a fixture in Berlin’s music calendar, with independent record shops across the city joining the global celebration of vinyl culture.
