Abor & Tynna – From humble beginnings to Eurovision spotlight

Abor & Tynna, the sibling duo taking the music world by storm, have a story as harmonious as their songs. Their journey from tinkering with laptops to representing Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is one filled with melody, passion, and a touch of familial magic.
With roots in Romania and Hungary, Abor & Tynna bring their wildly sparkling sound to the world from Vienna and produce the majority of their tracks in Berlin. So it was a no-brainer to represent Germany in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. “It was a great honour that the German people placed their trust in us to represent them. We are very grateful,” says Tynna.
And it seemed to be the right decision as the duo had sensational success at the event held in Basel. in the TV final, watched by a record number of fans, the duo swept the vote with their song Baller which is about “finding yourself again after a breakup, when the time is right, leaving your sadness and melancholy behind and looking courageously and confidently into the future,” explains Tynna. “I think very visually,” she adds, “and often imagine things vividly. That’s how lines like in Baller happen, where ‘shoot for the stars’ creates holes in the sky in my head from which all the stars fall.”
With a relaxed performance, modern beats and a consistently hit chorus, they hit the mark with this track at Eurovision and beyond. About their time at Eurovision, the siblings say: “It was a fantastic time and a unique experience. We feel like we gave our best and look back on it with great satisfaction. But the real adventure is just beginning! Of course, we would have hoped for a better placement, but in the end, it was a great experience that helped us enormously on our musical journey.”

Their highlight in the city of Basel itself was the carnival. Abor explains: “We were there a few weeks before the Eurovision Song Contest for the Postcard shoot, and it was a spectacle. Everyone, young and old, was out on the streets, playing music and celebrating.”
Since the finale aired, Abor & Tynna have reported 500,000 streams daily, recording rapid growth on the social network and easily cracking YouTube’s trending charts at #1. With straight-talking lyrics and their antiserum of cool electronic music and naughty disco pop, the siblings are boldly taking on the algorithm that is besieging not only Gen Z, and are asking questions no one else dares to ask. Abor explains: “We see that many feel lost – music gives us the opportunity to change perspective. What’s behind what’s not being said? What do we all really want, and where do we put the pressure?”

Humble beginnings
The siblings have always felt different somehow, because at home things were a bit more traditional than at others, and a touch stricter. They were home earlier at night, and cell phones were not always available – but they did have classical instruments, they say. What teenagers do not always appreciate is what makes Abor & Tynna special today. Their self-worth comes from a more reliable place than mere external appearances, enabling the freedom they take with their music. “We celebrate what inspires us at the moment. If the vibes are right, we’ll throw everything out the window in the studio because we’d rather not ignore a good feeling than follow some theory,” adds Abor.
The duo developed completely organically. Abor says: “I was always interested in technology and while experimenting, I quickly discovered Garage Band. Then came Logic and my first own instrumental tracks. At some point, that wasn’t enough for me anymore and I had the idea of letting my sister to sing on it.” When their mother posted one of their songs online, they thought nothing of it – not even when a producer friend invited them into the studio. “There was never a plan, no big excitement – except maybe when the label called,” says Tynna. “But we’re taking that in our stride. Abor is primarily responsible for beats and arrangements, and I’m responsible for lyrics, vocals and inspiration, but the boundaries are fluid. Above all, we want to keep trying new things and play live as often and as big as possible – that’s what brings us the most dopamine,” Tynna enthuses.
The duo describes working together as pleasant. “We’ve known each other for a long time and know what to consider. And we don’t mince our words when we have a problem. This also helps resolve conflicts more quickly,” says Abor.
New album
Mid-May, their powerful debut album Bittersüß was released as a deluxe version – Bittersüß (Baller Deluxe). With nine additional tracks, the expanded edition showcases even more of what defines Abor & Tynna: acoustic intimacy, international versatility, and a sense of emotion that gets under one’s skin. In addition to the existing 16 tracks, acoustic versions of Parallele Linien, Winnetou and Baller, and a Hungarian acoustic version, are now included.
23 songs in total break down the boundaries between cool electro, naughty disco pop and warm vintage beats with versatile tracks. “There’s something for everyone,” says Tynna. “It’s mostly about love and the pain of love, processed in various images and musical styles.” The lyrics cleverly visualise raw emotion; with an exciting balance of empowerment, irony, grit, and longing, the duo channels personal experience and the social maze of our time into images never before heard. The fact that we are dealing with not just two layers here, but a whole kaleidoscope of them, becomes apparent in the songs, which range from techno sound (Tan Lines), to 1980s nods (Guess What I Like), to acoustic distillate (Karussell). While the album resonates with the here and now, it simultaneously mercilessly processes yesterday. Tynna describes it like this: “Many of our songs deal with the past – the one from a while ago and the one that just happened. Even the good memories are usually associated with pain, simply because they’re over. That’s a duality we find exciting, and Bittersüß encapsulates it perfectly for us.”
Bittersüß is the merciless processing of the inner world of the two artists and their fearless, creative process. While Tynna’s favourite song on the album is Babylon because it “provides such a strong image and is very emotional,” Abor’s favourite is the cool Katana track because of the Kill Bill reference, according to him.
Many of the songs found on their debut album are written in German, while Abor & Tynna focused on English texts at the beginning. “But then we thought we’d try it in German and the first song Winx Club did so well on TikTok that we stuck with German,” explains Tynna.
The wildly sparkling debut came unusually early – just right for Abor: “We thought it was really cool to be able to make an album now. We had free rein and were able to capture where we come from and where we are now. At the same time, it shows where we’re headed and paves the way for new things.”
Speaking of new things, what is next for Abor & Tynna after the Eurovision Song Contest and their debut album? “In summer, we’ll be playing festivals and writing new music. In fall, we’ll be touring Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. And after that? Album number 2!”
Abor & Tynna’s journey is a testament to their dedication, passion, and the power of family. Their journey from casual home recordings to the grand stage of Eurovision, and their continuous evolution in the music industry, is truly inspiring. As they continue to create and share their music, their story serves as an inspiration to aspiring musicians everywhere and their unique sound and heartfelt lyrics will undoubtedly resonate with fans old and new. The rise of this musical duo is just beginning, and the world eagerly awaits the next chapter in their musical adventure.
