July brings a packed calendar of open-air celebrations, from lively music festivals and contemporary dance performances to world-class theatre, comedy and cultural events. Whether on city streets, mountain tops, beachfront stages or historic squares, summer is in full swing across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, offering countless opportunities to experience the DACH region’s vibrant spirit.
Donauinselfest, Danube Island, Vienna (3 – 5 July)
Held on Vienna’s famous Danube Island, the Donauinselfest is considered one of the world’s largest free open-air festivals, attracting millions of visitors every year. Spanning several kilometres along the river, the festival combines live music, cabaret, sports, food and cultural programming across numerous stages and themed areas, turning the Austrian capital into a vibrant summer celebration.
48 Hours Neukölln, Berlin (3 – 5 July)
For 48 hours each summer, Berlin’s Neukölln district transforms into a sprawling stage for contemporary art, performance, music and installations. Featuring more than 1,000 artists across galleries, bars, cafés, parks and unexpected pop-up spaces, the free festival offers a unique glimpse into one of Berlin’s most creative and diverse neighbourhoods.

Caliente! Festival, Zurich (3 – 5 July)
Bringing an authentic Latin American atmosphere to the heart of Zurich, Caliente! is one of Europe’s largest Latin festivals. Held at the city’s Kasernenareal, the three-day celebration combines live music, DJs, dance performances, tropical food and colourful street culture, transforming the neighbourhood into a lively summer barrio filled with Latin flair.
ImPulsTanz, Vienna (9 July – 9 August)
Transforming Vienna into an international hub for contemporary dance each summer, ImPulsTanz is one of the world’s largest festivals dedicated to dance and performance. Founded in 1984, the festival brings together acclaimed choreographers, emerging artists, workshops, research projects and open-air dance classes across some of Vienna’s most iconic venues, creating a city-wide celebration of movement and creativity.

Gurtenfestival, Bern (15 – 18 July)
Set atop Bern’s scenic Gurten mountain, Gurtenfestival combines live music with panoramic views across the Swiss capital and the Alps. Since 1977, the open-air festival has grown into one of Switzerland’s best-loved summer events, attracting international headliners such as Lilly Allan and Lorde alongside local acts across multiple stages, with food stalls, art installations and a relaxed hillside atmosphere adding to its unique charm.

Salzburg Festival, Salzburg (17 July – 30 August)
Returning to Salzburg’s historic stages and cathedral squares, Salzburg Festival once again brings together world-class opera, classical music and theatre in one of Europe’s most prestigious cultural events. This year’s highlights include new productions of Carmen and Ariadne auf Naxos, as well as the festival’s iconic open-air staging of Jedermann on Cathedral Square, starring Philipp Hochmair alongside new cast member Roxane Duran.

Wiener Cabaret Festival, Vienna (25 July – 1 August)
Set in the atmospheric Arkadenhof courtyard of Vienna’s City Hall, the Wiener Kabarettfestival celebrates Austrian cabaret, satire and comedy with a week of live performances under the summer sky. This year’s programme features artists including Andreas Vitasek, Nina Hartmann, Benedikt Mitmannsgruber and Gerald Fleischhacker, alongside live podcast shows, music performances and emerging comedy talent.
Summertime, Norderney (29 July – 2 August)
Set against the spectacular backdrop of the North Sea, Summertime@NORDERNEY transforms the island’s beachfront into an open-air concert arena for five days of live music and entertainment. This year’s line-up includes Robin Schulz, ClockClock, Sarah Connor and DJ Ötzi, bringing a mix of pop, dance and party anthems to one of Germany’s most unique seaside festival locations.
