Stand on the shores of the Zeulenroda Sea and you will sense it instantly: time moves differently here. The water shimmers, leafy paths wind along the banks, and somewhere between the scent of freshly baked bread and fragrant pine lies Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda – together with its 21 new bio chalets.

It all began in 1999, when Professor Hans B. Bauerfeind came across a derelict East German holiday home. Where others saw only crumbling concrete, he saw opportunity, transforming the ruin into a four-star hotel that, in 2006, became Germany’s first certified organic conference hotel. Today, it stands for genuine sustainability, deep roots in the region, and honest, heartfelt hospitality.

With 97 per cent organic produce, short supply chains and a kitchen focused on seasonal ingredients, its philosophy is as much about provenance as it is about flavour. Freshly baked breads and cakes are provided daily by the in-house organic bakery, while the hotel’s own organic butchery produces sausages with guaranteed traceability.

At the heart of the hotel lies the 1,600-square-metre Panorama Spa. An infinity pool with sweeping views over the Zeulenroda Sea, saunas, steam bath, snow chamber, and beauty treatments using certified natural cosmetics ensure everyday life feels far away. Everything is fully accessible, from the pool lift to the serene relaxation rooms.

From stand-up paddleboarding right on your doorstep, to a stroll along the three-kilometre lakeside promenade, bowling, cycling tours, or a visit to the Sport Park with its high ropes course, football golf and archery – there is something here for every pace. Families are also very welcome. During school holidays and at weekends, younger guests can enjoy a varied programme of games, crafts, sports and other activities. A special favourite is the marble run, a hit with children and adults alike.

Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda also provides an inspiring backdrop for events from intimate workshops to large conferences for up to 500 guests. There are 32 venues to choose from, including a drive-in hall ideal for vehicle presentations. The nine conference rooms on the fifth floor offer sweeping views of the Zeulenroda Sea and the gentle landscape of the Thuringian Vogtland.

Since 2024, the property also includes 21 bio chalets. With open kitchens, pinewood beds, terraces and lake views, they are perfect hideaways for two to six people – some are wheelchair accessible, all are dog-friendly, and each is just a short stroll (or shuttle ride) from the hotel and spa.

Eine Auszeit am Zeulenrodaer Meer

Wer am Zeulenrodaer Meer steht, spürt sofort: Hier hat Zeit eine andere Geschwindigkeit. Das Wasser glitzert, die Uferwege schlängeln sich durchs Grün, und irgendwo zwischen dem Duft von frisch gebackenem Brot und Zirbenholz liegt das Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda und seine 21 neuen Chalets.

Seinen Anfang nahm alles 1999, als Prof. Hans B. Bauerfeind ein verfallenes DDR-Ferienheim entdeckte. Wo andere nur Beton sahen, sah er neue Möglichkeiten und verwandelte die Ruine in ein 4-Sterne-Haus, das 2006 als erstes Bio-Kongresshotel Deutschlands zertifiziert wurde. Heute steht es für gelebte Nachhaltigkeit, regionale Verbundenheit und ehrlichen Genuss.

95 Prozent Bio-Anteil, kurze Lieferwege und eine Küche, die sich auf saisonale Zutaten stützt, sind Teil der Philosophie: In der eigenen Bio-Backstube entstehen knusprige Brote und Kuchen, in der Bio-Fleischerei Wurstwaren mit Herkunftsgarantie.

Das Herz des Hotels ist das 1.600 Quadratmeter große Panorama Spa. Ein Infinity-Pool, mit Blick auf das Zeulenrodaer Meer, Saunen, Dampfbad, Schneekammer und Beauty-Anwendungen mit zertifizierter Naturkosmetik sorgen dafür, dass der Alltag draußen bleibt. Alles barrierefrei zugänglich, vom Pool-Lift bis zu den Ruheräumen.

Ob Stand-Up-Paddling vor der Haustür, eine Wanderung entlang des 3-Kilometer-Promenadenwegs, Bowling, Radtouren oder ein Besuch im Sport Park mit Hochseilgarten, Fußballgolf und Bogenschießen – hier findet jeder seinen Rhythmus.

Auch Familien sind herzlich willkommen – in den Ferien und an Wochenenden erwarten die kleinen Gäste abwechslungsreiche Programme voller Spiel, Bastel-, Sport- und weiterer Freizeitaktivitäten. Ein besonderes Highlight: die Murmelbahn, die Groß und Klein gleichermaßen begeistert.

Das Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda bietet auch für Events den passenden Rahmen, egal ob kleiner Workshop oder große Tagung mit 500 Gästen. Insgesamt 32 Locations, stehen zur Verfügung, inklusive befahrbarem Saal – perfekt für Fahrzeugpräsentationen. Wer Inspiration sucht, findet sie in den neun Tagungsräumen im fünften Stock mit weitem Blick über das Zeulenrodaer Meer und die sanfte Landschaft des Thüringer Vogtlands.

Seit 2024 gehören auch 21 Chalets zum Haus. Mit offener Küche, Zirbenholzbetten, Terrasse und Seeblick sind sie perfekte Rückzugsorte für zwei bis sechs Personen, teils barrierefrei, hundefreundlich und immer nur einen Spaziergang (oder Shuttle-Bus) vom Hotel und Spa entfernt.
