Frankfurt-Ostend, about two kilometres from Frankfurt’s historic city centre and the famous ‘Römer’ city hall. The glass façade of the European Central Bank’s towers are within the range of vision. Here, a disused railway area is the site of a new residential quarter constructed by Max Baum Immobilien. Three architecture firms have been tasked with realising the project. Such a collaboration between the firms may have seemed like a novelty to some in the architecture world when Frankfurt-based Karl Dudler Architekten and Stefan Forster Architekten as well as Ortner & Ortner Baukunst from Berlin set up ‘Schwedler Carré’ as a joint venture. The idea: collective urban development, individual architecture.
