Two of the most interesting places in lovely Salzburg are without a doubt Mozart’s birthplace and the Mozart Residence. Both buildings give a deep insight into Mozart’s life and the 18th century. Mozart was born on 27 January 1756 at Getreidegasse 9. Today his three-story birthplace is one of the most visited museums worldwide. “Nowhere else are Wolfgang Amadé Mozart and his music as vividly palpable as here,” says museum director Gabriele Ramsauer. Visitors gain a unique insight into Mozart’s family, his living conditions and his passion for the opera. Many exciting documents, original portraits, memorabilia and rarities such as Mozart’s childhood violin and his clavichord complete the visit. A true highlight is the probably most famous portrait of Mozart.
